Oregon Rx Card Media Center

The Oregon Medical Association (OMA) officially announced plans to expand support for Oregon's free statewide prescription assistance program earlier today. Oregon Rx Card, which is free to all Oregon residents, provides savings of up to 75% on prescription drugs at local pharmacies. This program has no restrictions to membership, no income requirements, no age limitations and there are no applications to fill out.

The goal of the partnership is to provide additional card distribution channels and create awareness so that all Oregon residents will have access to this prescription assistance program. Together, Oregon Rx Card and OMA are currently educating all clinics, hospitals, county health departments and urgent care clinics throughout the state about the program.

In addition, OMA is working directly with physicians and hospitals across Oregon to distribute hard cards to anyone in need.

"OMA believes this is an easy and innovative way to help patients get the prescription drugs they need," said Joanne K. Bryson, CAE, Executive Vice President and CEO of the Oregon Medical Association. "We encourage all of our physicians to be proactive in making these cards accessible to their patients."

Launched in 2009, Oregon Rx Card has saved residents over $13.6 million on their prescription costs since inception. Oregon Rx Card is designed to help the uninsured and underinsured residents afford their prescription medications. However, the program can also be used by people who have health insurance coverage with no prescription benefits, which is common in many health savings accounts (HSA) and high deductible health plans.

Additionally, people who have prescription coverage can use the program for non-covered drugs.
